Climatic Conditions Threatening The Kenyan Population

 Climate change is posing an increasing threat to global Socio Economic development and environmental sustainability.Developing counties with low adaptive capacity and high vulnerability to the phenomenon are disproportionately affected.Climate change in Kenya has increasingly impacted the lives of Kenyans citizens and all the environment.Climatr change has led to more frequent extreme weather events like drought which last longer than usual, irregular and unpredictable rainfall, flooding and increasing temperature.

As of now three consecutive poor rainy seasons in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) of Kenya have exhausted families’ coping capacities and left more than 2.9 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, according to the Flash Appeal launched in September 2021 to galvanize action in response to the drought. The food security situation in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) counties deteriorated sharply in the last quarter of 2021 due to the poor performance of the October-December 2021 short rains season, leaving an estimated 3.5 million people severely food in


secure (IPC 3 and above) in 2022. The prolonged drought—and several months without adequate access to food—has left more than 650,000 children acutely malnourished.


Livestock deaths due to the drought are reported to have surpassed 1.5 million, including due to long trekking distances and depleted pastures. In pastoral areas, people are having to trek longer distances in search of water for themselves and water and forage for their livestock.


As pastoralists travel further from their usual zones, several counties—including Baringo, Isiolo, Laikipia, Lamu, Marsabit, Samburu, Tana River, Turkana and Wajir—have been affected by resource-based conflicts. In some areas, over 90 per cent of open water sources have dried up and the remaining are expected to last between 1 – 2 months only.



The situation is expected to continue worsening if immediate action is not taken to curb the climatic threat posed worldwide which in turn causes such event's...We are obliged as a people to lead the talk by practicing productive behaviors like tree planting,reducing ommision of toxic gases to the Atmosphere and most important beign eco friendly...
